Blum Center Scholars assist with Project SEMILLA initiative

Project SEMILLA congratulates Ana Mascareñas and Erik Peña who have been named Summer Scholars by the UCLA Blum Center on Poverty and Health in Latin America. Ana Mascareñas is a Master of Public Health candidate with a concentration in Environmental Health Sciences. Erik Peña is a dual Masters in Latin America Studies and Masters of Public Health candidate with a concentration in Community Health Sciences. Under supervision of UNAN faculty mentors Professors Andres Herrera and Orlando Morales, they will perform qualitative interviews of community members in rural areas surrounding Leon, Nicaragua. They will explore the decision-making process for seeking emergency services and types of care sought. This data will inform future decisions on programming to strengthen the pre-hospital system in Nicaragua.
